Abstract

180,121. Dewrance, Sir J. March 17, 1921. Wedging or jamming.-In a valve of the sliding gate type, the two discs are forced against their seatings by means of a forked or Y-shaped member with wedge-shaped faces. The valve discs d are each provided with lugs b, b<1> forming a cage for the Y-shaped member a. Inclined faces a<2> are formed on this member which, when the stem abuts against the stop e, force the discs d outwards against the valve seats. The discs are maintained in sliding contact with their seats during vertical movement by means of a spring f. Fig. 4 shows an alternative construction in which the spring f has its axis at right-angles to the plane of the Y.
