Throttle-Valves. N0. 146,796, Patented la nr27 187-4.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN F. WILSON, OF SALEM, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN THROTTLE-VALVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 146,796., dated January '27, 1874; application filed August 19, 1873. i
ginery.
The case A, Fig. 1, is made with two valveseats, a b, and withdrawing-chamber F. Stem (J passes through the case and carries the crankarm B. This arm is provided with two studs, 9 h, which engage with links 6 f. The links, in turn, engage with and carry the two valveplates 0 d by the pins on the backs of the valve-plates entering into corresponding holes in the outside of links 0 f. Wedge-shaped projections are formed upon the inside of the links, as seen at i.
The two studs on the orankarm B are not placed circumferentially opposite each other,
but one is placed in advance of the other, as shown in Fig. 2. The object of this is to cause the wedge-shaped projections seen at i, Fig.
1, to be drawn upon eachother when the stem 0 is rotated in the direction to close the valve, thus causing the valve-plates c d to be forced outward against the seats a b. Rotating the stem 6 in the opposite way will release the wedges and allow the valve-plates to be withdrawn into chamber F, thus allowing a free passage through the valve.
When, through wear of the parts, the valveplates 0 (I do not press the seats a b with sufficient force to make a tight joint, an adjustment may be made by placing thin disks of metal in the links wherein the center pins of the valve-plates enter.
I claim as my invention-- The combination, with the case, of an actuating crank-arm and its pins, with links having wedge-shaped projections, and valves, all
arranged substantially as and for the purpose described. v
