Sprinklers, automatic. - A breakable strut for supporting the valve of an automatic sprinkler head comprises a tube 17 of glass &c. containing an explosive or expansible substance 22, and a scale for'indicating the amount of the explosive or expansible substance and the degree of ite explosion; such scale may also form the scale of an electric-contact thermometer 24 integral with the strut, thus allowing the upper contact wire 32 to be adjusted to cause the strut to break at any required temperature. When the circuit is closed, a detonator 23 is operated, and the substance 22 explodes and breaks the strut, thus allowing the sprinkler valve to open.
