742,300. Detonating fuzes and fuze cores. DYNAMIT-AKT.-GES. VORM. A. NOBEL & CO. June 19, 1953 [Aug. 6, 1952], No: 17015/53. Classes 9(1) and 9(2) A detonating firedamp-proof fuze cord has a filling core comprising an intimate mixture of pentaerythritol tetranitrate and a substance preventing firedamp ignition which splits off carbon dioxide at elevated temperature and has an endothermic character. Suitable substances are sodium bicarbonate, normal or acid salts of polycarboxylic acids, e.g. adipic acid such as sodium acid adipate, normal or acid salts of hydroxy polycarboxylic acids, e.g..tartaric or citric acid, normal or acid salts of halogenated polycarboxylic acids, or a mixture of two or more of these compounds. 2-70 per cent preferably 20-40 per cent of the substance may be present when the -filling core has a diameter of not more than 2.5 mm. and a density of 0.5-0.7 grm./c.c.
