Abstract
401,334. Fusible cut-outs. ABELL, R. H. 253F, Cromwell Road, Kensington, London. March 31, 1932. No. 9256. [Class 38 (i).] A fusible element enclosed in a frangible container is immersed in insulating liquid contained in an explosion pot, the pot having an opening for relief of pressure therein and the assembly being arranged so that when the fusible element blows. the frangible container is destroyed and the terminals are separated, the arc if not previously extinguished being thus drawn through the opening in the pot. As shewn in the Figure, the fusible element 1, enclosed in a frangible container 9, is held under the insulating liquid 2 between elements 5 and 6, the element 6 being under tension from the compressed spring 8. When the fuse blows the container 9 is destroyed and the spring 8 lifts element 6 to elongate the arc, the arc being withdrawn through the opening 4 so that, if not already extinguished, it is put out by the blast of oil and vapour deflected to the opening by baffle 10. The oil or other liquid 2 has access to the interior of the container 9 to provide a vapour producing substance which vaporises on the blowing of the fuse and causes the shattering of container 9. Specification 303,090, [Class 38 (i), Electric couplings &c.], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 397,234.
