Abstract

390,220. Fusible cut-outs. WEST & CO., Ltd., A., WEST, A., and BREEZE, V., Lewes Road, Brighton. Oct. 2, 1931. No. 32671/32. Divided on 389,883. [Class 38 (i).] In an electric fuse of the chemical extinguisher type the increased pressure within the container is relieved by the fracture as distinct from the dislodging of a separate vent element such as the glass 7 comprising part of the wall of the container. The fuse element 1 is maintained in tension by movable tension elements such as springs 16 connected to it at both ends. The two metal end caps 2, 3 are connected by glass tubes 4, 5 to the intermediate metal connecting element 6, which registers with the tube 18 of arcresisting material, the diameter of the tube being such that the arc-extinguishing liquid may flow freely between it and the container. A hole in the side of the tube 18 registers with the boss 6A carrying the disc 7 of glass or other frangible material which is protected by a cover 8 with an opening 8A. A tubular element 22 is intended to concentrate the force of the explosion on the disc 7.
