Abstract

177,934. Martin, J. C. Feb. 10, 1921. Plug cocks; leakage, preventing. - A conical plug cock is provided with a resilient member for maintaining contact between valve and seat, and with means for lubricating the plug. The conical plug 13 is provided with a short stem 15, screw-threaded at 16 and having a square portion 17. Grooves 18 formed in the plug are connected to a radial passage 19 at the lower end of an axial duct 20 to which lubricant is supplied. The top of the casing 10 is covered by a flat plate 23 of lead, copper, asbestos, rubber, duck, or other material, having a thicker central portion 24 which rests on the plug. A coverplate 25 is secured to the casing by bolts 26, and is recessed to take a ring 30 and a resilient ring 32. The part 15 is provided with a recess 33 of about 90‹ engaging with a lug on the casing to limit the rotation of the valve. An additional plate 35 is secured by a nut 36.
