Abstract
175,984. Michell, A. G. M. Feb. 23, 1921, [Convention date]. Lubricant conveyed by mechanical means.- Lubricant is supplied to a railway-vehicle axle by a roller mounted at one end of a counter-balanced lever in the axle-box, contact being maintained solely by means of a spring. The roller 1. which is grooved, is mounted on a spindle 3 secured to the lever 4 by a pin 10, which serves also to retain in position a spring 8 situated between the lever 4 and a tray 7. The lever is fulcrumed on a pin 6 mounted in the tray 7. The whole is arranged so that, when freed from the action of the spring 8, it is balanced about the pin 6, so that contact of the roller with the axle is maintained solely by the spring 8, which may be arranged as shown or may be arranged to depress the arm of the lever carrying the counterweight. or may be wrapped about pin 6 to apply upward pressure to the arm 4. The roller is rounded so that efficient contact is maintained on the bearing 11 wears, as shown in dotted lines. A plug 13 closes an aperture in the box through which the casing 7 with the lubricating-device may be inserted or withdrawn. The casing 7 may be dispensed with, the pin 6 being mounted directly in the axle-box. Specification 115,804, [Class 12 (i), Bearings, &c.], is referred to.
