Abstract

175,791. Jones, E., Davies, E., and Evans, S. Dec. 2, 1920. Gravel and like distributors. - Apparatus for delivering and spreading stone chippings, gravel, and the like on roads, comprises a hopper d secured to the tail of a horse or motor driven wagon and fitted with guides (not shown) which feed the material in the hopper towards an opening or openings e in the base of the hopper. The openings e are fitted with closure plates l shown as mounted to slide and provided with rack teeth r engaged by toothed quadrants q on a rod p, the manipulation of which rod effects the opening or closing of the apertures e. The plates may, however, be hinged instead of sliding. Below and loosely suspended from lugs on the bottom of the hopper are end plates f connected by oppositely inclined shelves or louvers h arranged to overlap as shown, and fitted with baffle or stop plates k, or otherwise partly encased. The number of shelves may be varied.
