Abstract
175,330. Bustamante, G. J. Oct. 1, 1920. Pulp, preparation of.-In preparing cellulose from the leaves and stems of lichens, trees, and plants of various kinds, the dried material is immersed in cold water and separated by de-fiberizing-apparatus into coarse fibres which are placed on a layer of anhydrous lime to which is added non-caustic lye (Na2 CO3). Ammonia is added and finally hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid. After washing the material is pressed and then comminuted. The operation may be repeated any number of times and a bleaching-agent may be added immediately before the ammonia.
