Abstract

174,119. Walker, H. Sept. 14, 1920. Roller-and-ring mills.-Relates to dust-guards for preventing the escape of dust or material from the interior of a roller-and-ring crushing or pulverizing mill round the roll-shafts. The dustguard comprises a series of coaxial members disposed about the roll-shaft, springs being provided to press the members against the casing and bearing. A dust-plate k covers the opening c in the mill casing d through which the roll-shaft b passes, and an annular plate p surrounds the shaft b between the plate k and a collar e keyed to the shaft b. The plate p has a series of radially-arranged reinforcing-ribs m and a hub portion k<1> disposed around the guide-box g which surrounds the collar e and is fitted with a bush h. The parts k, p, m, and k<1> are formed as a single casting, and waste yarn or the like is packed into the lateral chambers q. Springs n are placed between the plate k and lugs on the box g, and a pin o on the bearing a engages in a recess in the lower lug and holds the dust-guard as a whole in a fixed position. Bosses r keep the springs in correct alignment.
