Mechanical stoking; grates.-In an inclined underfeed stoker of the type described in Specification 173,596 the guard-plates 52 extending under the extension grates 50 and over the dumping grates 61 are removably secured in position by means of flanges 52<a> on the said plates engaging grooves in extensions 54 of the guide-members 53 and locked by keys 59. The dumping grates 61 are described as supported normally by dogs 62 mounted on a shaft 63 and operated by a handle 65.
