Abstract
173,578. Cruz, A. M. M. da. Sept. 24, 1920. Current motors; regulating. - Overlapping vanes g, hinged to horiozntal arms on a vertical shaft B, provide a resistant surface to the wind on one side of the spindle and are free to be blown into an inclined position on the other side. To render the windmill inoperative, the vanes on the resistant side are turned into an horizontal position by means of cranked arms R on a vertical shaft E. The shaft B is hollow and is supported upon a central fixed column by ball bearings at the ends of shaft B. The lower part of the column may be a braced steel structure. In a modification, the vanes g are formed of canvas with vertical stiffening-ribs and, to vary the power of or stop the windmill, the canvas vanes are furled by means of ropes, to which access is given by a central ladder.
