Abstract
173,157. Barker, L. Dec. 10, 1920. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Guarding against unauthorized use.-Means for preventing unauthorized use of motor road vehicles of the type in which the gear or brake lever moves in a toothed sector and can be secured thereto. is arranged so that the locking means is concealed and the push-button controlling the pawl coacting with the toothed sector can still be depressed when the lever is locked. As shown, downward movement of a rod I disengages the pawl from the toothed sector. A push-button A is normally connected with the rod through a sleeve E, and cam-members C, D. The cam-member C may be rotated by a key G, whereby helical cam surfaces at the contacting ends of the cammembers are actuated and permit the lower member to be raised out of engagement with the rod I bv means of a spring at its lower end, and downward movement of the push-button will not then free the pawl. The cam-member C is retained in either of its functioning positions by means of a spring key F attached to a sleeve B carrying the lock mechanism and secured to the handle. A projecting finger at the lower end of the spring key can engage either of two diametrically positioned longitudinal slots in the upper cammember and is retracted from either slot to permit rotation of the cam-member upon the insertion of the key, the end of which is shaped to engage an upper finger on the key and press it outwards. A series of grooved keys may be constructed to suit varied arrangements of pins and dogs in the upper cam-member.
