Abstract
173,131. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Nov. 6, 1920. Mangles and wringers, driving-gear for, consisting in a particular arrangement of reduction gear for driving from a small high-speed electromotor. An electromotor 1 is controlled from a switch 41 and is mounted on shafts 2 journaled in bearings 5, 6 carried by the motor casing connected to a reduction gear housing 11 by bolts. On a motor shaft is keyed a gear-wheel 15 which drives a gear-wheel 22 through a train 16, 17, 19, 20. The wheels 19, 20 are integral and are mounted on a stub-shaft 21, in line with the motor shaft, and attached to the gear housing, while the wheels 16, 17 are integral and are mounted on a stub-shaft 18, in line with the lower roller, and carried by the flange of the motor casing. The gear-wheels are made of greater thickness as their distance from the motor increases. Clutch teeth 24 are arranged on a sleeve attached to the gear-wheel 22 and engage teeth in a clutch member 25, sliding on the square shaft 26 of the lower roller, and actuated from a handle 29. The upper roller is driven from the lower roller by staggered gear-wheels 37, 36, and the whole apparatus is pivoted on a vertical pin 14.
