Abstract
12,562. Fawcett, Preston, & Co. and Matthey, C. A. June 4. Motors, gearing for. - Starting-resistances are dispensed with, and the motor shaft is connected with the driven shaft by a centrifugalaction friction clutch so as to enable it to run up to a safe speed before it has time to become heated. Fig. 1 shows one arrangement for this purpose, in which the armature shaft B is geared to the driven shaft H by a friction clutch composed of two pulleys C and G, the former of which carries a pair of friction blocks E fitting loosely into recesses in its periphery. In a modified arrangement, the pulley G is mounted loosely on the armature shaft B and transmits power to the driven machine by means of a belt.
