Abstract

173,044. Courtney, T. L., and Keith, H. Sept. 16, 1920. Flexible connections between rim and hub.- The rim 3, Fig. 1, and hub 6 of a wheel are connected by a cable 18 running over pulleys 6b, 7 fixed alternately to the rim and hub. The rim 3 has a flange 5, Fig. 2, which has a thickened inner periphery 2a, 8 integral with or secured to the hub 6. The cable 18 may be adjustable. A ring 12 may be provided between the hub 6. and the edge of the flange 5 to reduce friction when these parts come in contact. A solid or pneumatic tyre may be fitted. In a modification the pulleys and cable are placed between the hub and a flange projecting from the rim flange 5, and guided between the side flanges 6a, 8, of the hub, the thickened part 2a being omitted.
