Abstract
171,824. Danforth, H. A. Sept. 14, 1920. Vibration-dampers.-A vehicle shock-absorber is provided with centrifugal means operated by the vibration of the vehicle frame for counteracting the force of the vibration. The shock-absorber 6, Fig. 3, is connected to the frame 5 and the spring 4 by arms 7, 8, the latter being cast with the casing and the former being pivotally secured to the shock-absorber and flexibly secured to the frame between springs 14 on a pin 17 in a box 12. The arm 7 has a segmental gear 18, Fig. 6, meshing with a pinion 19 which drives a train of gears within the casing, the last wheel 27<1> being mounted on a shaft 30. Loose on the shaft is a governor 28, 29, one sleeve 32 of which is held against axial movement and is connected to the shaft 30 by a ratchet and spring pawl, while the other sleeve 31 is movable axially to bring a disc 38 thereon into contact with a stationary disc 39, Fig. 8, which is adjustable axially on studs 52 by screwed pins 42, 43 passing through the casing. Downward movement of the body is thus resisted both by the governor and by friction of the discs 38, 39.
