Mine props comprise a central tube portion a cored or provided with abutting projections a<2> and having a ring a' of square section shrunk on its centre, and two coned tubes b adapted to slide on the central tube and abut against the ring and to receive the coned ends of the wooden portions c of the prop. The coned tubes may be provided with double coned portions b<1>, b<2> to allow of subsidence before the wooden ends abut on the core or projections, and are prevented from separation by a chain or by a bolt and wedge b<7>.
