Abstract

170,810. Ball, E. B. Aug. 3, 1920. Casting-machines; moulds; clamping moulds.- Moulds for centrifugal casting machines, particularly machines of the type described in Specification 168,762, are divided longitudinally into two or more parts and provided with detachable end plates. Special clamping-means are provided, and in the case of castings such as doublyflanged pipes, end sections of the mould that crush in contraction of the casting are employed. These sections F are of sand, graphite, &c., and are preferably hollow. The end plate C is apertured for pouring and to regulate the thickness of the casting and may be provided with a cylindrical bearing surface A<2>, Fig. 2, on which the mould rests in the machine and by which the mould is driven..The surface A<2> may be formed on the body of the mould. The mould sections may be clamped by a hinged and bolted ring B, Fig. 1, or by bands B<1> with hooked ends engaged by rings, wedges B<3> being driven between the bands and the mould.
