Abstract
170,572. Koppers Co., (Assignees of Jacobson, D. L.). Oct. 22, 1920, [Convention date]. Materials for purifying; purifier waste, revivefying.-Coke-oven &c. gas is purified from carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide by being passed through a pipe 1 into scrubbers 2, 3 containing sodium carbonate, the gas then passing by a pipe 4 to iron oxide purifiers for the absorption of any traces of hydrogen sulphide remaining. The fouled solution is passed from the scrubbers by a pipe 5 through a heater to a hot well 6 and is raised by a pump 7 to the top of a cooling tower 9 in which the hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide and cyanogen compounds are driven out by a current of air or inert gas, and the revivified solution from a basin 10 is returned by a pump 15 and pipe 16 to the scrubbers. A portion of the solution from the basin 10 is passed by a pump 11 to primary gas-coolers 13, being thereby heated, and is returned by a pipe 14 to the hot well to raise the temperature therein.
