Abstract

170,208. McAteer, J. W. Nov. 8, 1920. Guarding against unauthorized use.-A lock for the steering-column or like movable part of a motor or other cycle, motor-car, &c., comprises a spring-pressed locking-bolt j which is adapted to be retracted from its operative position by the differential action of internal and external screw-threads on an operating plug or key q, said screw-threads engaging respectively with the bolt and with the main body a or a part g mounted thereon. The bolt is squared, as at m, to slide within the body a, and is pressed forward by a spring o abutting against the part g and against a cross-pin n. The part g is retained in position by a grub-screw p. The threads or combination of threads on the bush g and the bolt end k may be varied, and by turning the bolt through 90� about its axis, a further series of combinations may be obtained. To prevent turning of the plug owing to the vibration of the vehicle, the upper edge of the body a and bush g may have radial notches for engagement by a spring-pressed nose on the plug.
