170,047. Denton, F. G., and Angus, M. June 9, 1920. Packing, compound metallic and non-metallic.-Packing for stuffing-boxes &c. consists of a metallic shell b, Fig. 7, of elliptical, round, rectangular, or other section, containing, a resilient core of canvas or asbestos &c., and having projections c which make contact with the rod and with the wall of the stuffing-box. The shell may have a transverse diaphragm, or two shells may be united by a diaphragm f. The shell may be perforated, and mav be cut away at the sides g. The projections c may be of various forms, e.g. triangular, or grooved, Fig. 16. The shell may be of thin metal, or of lead or other alloy. The packing may be inserted' in ring form, or helically.
