Abstract

307,207. Read, E. H. March 2, 1928. Packing, metallic.-A strip A of soft metal e.g., lead, brass, &c., is bent at right angles along line a1 and slit along line a2 so that when bent round and fitted as rings R into a stuffing-box with ordinary soft packing D it takes all the wear. The cylindrical part is perforated to receive or to ooze oil. The packing may have two flanges, Fig. 7A. A similar packing may be cast in two semi-circular halves. Long strips of the bent packing may be coiled in helices from which required lengths may be cut.
