Abstract

Open fire-places; fuel holders.-In a fire-place of the type in which the grate is positioned at or below the level of the hearth and isprovided with undulations to facilitate the circulation of air, the grate is built up of sections to permit replacement of a worn section and also of adjustment to fit fire-places of different widths. Fig. 2 shows, in plan, a. grate built up of three rectangular sections a<1>, each provided with a ridge c, and two tapering end sections a<2>, each having a groove d, the parts forming, when assembled, as shown in Fig. 3, an imperforate grate with an undulating surface. The ridges c and grooves d are inclined towards the back of the grate where a transverse well e is provided to collect ashes which slide down the inclined surface. The front of the grate is formed by a block x which may be of any desired height..
