Abstract

169,020. Rodberg, A. M. June 21, 1920. Combined-flow type; reversing; leakage-preventing devices.-In a reversible marine turbine the steam first flows circumferentially round rings of peripheral blades 108 on the rotor 26 and then flows axially through inner rotor blades 107 and stator blades 102. The blades are so shaped that when the direction of flow is reversed, the rotation is reversed. A reversing and distributing valve 61 in the steam chest 37 supplies steam in one or the other direction to the peripheral blades 108, and is provided with conduits for receiving the steam exhausting from one ring of said blades and delivering it to two rings, and so on with progressive expansion, the steam finally exhausting into a chamber 31 from which it is led by a pipe 33 to a secondary chest 32 containing a reversing valve 89 controlling the supply and exhaust for the axial-flow blades 107. The valves 61, 89 are operated by a common gear. To prevent the escape of steam, inclined grooves 110, Fig. 18, are formed in the blade rings 98 and the adjacent stator members.
