Abstract
168,910. Baron, H., (Signal Ges.). Sept. 8, 1921. Speaking-tubes-Tubes of considerable length and large diameter for the conduction of sound, have a tapered portion 2, Fig. 1, at the ear end the length of this portion being of the order cf three times the wave length of the sound used. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3, a small flat sound-box 5, forming a resonating chamber with its internal space turned to the sound frequency, is connected to the main tube. There may be a diaphragm 6 also tuned to the sound frequency, or the chamber may be connected to the main tube by a rigid wall having a small opening. The sound is conducted to the ear by means of a flexible pipe 3 or by an opening in the chamber.
