Abstract

168,064. Holzveredelung Ges. Aug. 18, 1920, [Convention date]. Hardening wood by compression.-Wood is hardened and waterproofed by heating it white in a moist condition to a temperature between 75‹ C. and 180‹ C., or treating it with a cellulose solvent, and compressing under a pressure of at least 200 atmospheres. Preferably the heat is applied gradually. The duration and intensity of the heating and compression vary according to the kind of wood. Air is excluded during the heating. Specifications 13821/97 and 3900/98 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 5973/96.
