Razors.-A device for converting an ordinary razor into a safety razor comprises a. pivoted guard B, Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 8, which is movable longitudinally with respect to the blade, and, in the form shown in Fig. 1, is secured thereto in operative position by a pin 12 passing along a curvilinear guide, and through a groove into a slot 20 in which it is held by the frictional engagement of upset spring parts 23 on the shank of the guard with the shank of the razor. On closing the razor, a stop 16 in the handle engages a. shoulder 19 on the guard and ensures that the blade does not close on to the guard. A niche 21 serves as a finger grip, and a lip 15 is provided in the handle to engage the guard. In the form shown in Fig. 2, provision is made for adjusting the edge of the guard with respect to the edge of the razor by providing two U-shaped slots 24 engaged by the hinged pin 11 and the pin 12, the pins being guided into the arms of the U-shaped slots which are appropriate for the desired adjustment. Another method of achieving this result is shown in Fig. 3 in which the guard B is in two parts, tongues 28, 29 engaging slots 30, 27 with sufficient lateral play to permit the tongue 28 to engage with any desired notch in the serrated side of the slot 30. A modified method of securing the guard as shown in Fig. 8, in which a hook 32 on a lever 31 pivoted on the hinge-pin 11 may engage on either side of an off-set portion 33 on the guard.
