Abstract

167,611. Hopkins, G. T. May 19, 1920. Arresting-grips on permanent way. - Apparatus for stopping colliery tubs on inclines and for similar purposes comprises braking-bars a supported by parallel links c in a position parallel to the rails such that they engage the upper part of the wheels. The bars a are connected across the rails by a bar e bent upwards at each end. When the links c are in a position at right-angles to the track, the bars a are clear of the wheels of a vehicle, but when inclined in the direction of motion produce a wedging action. The position of the bars is adjusted against the action of gravity by a tension member g operated by a lever f. The tension member may have a spring m therein arranged so as to be capable of limited extension. The links c being moved into an upwardly inclined position a limited braking effect is produced, the bars a then not being capable of movement into the wedging position. A spring control of the links c is employed when the track is level.
