Aerating. - Apparatus for the treatment of sewage or residual liquids by an aerobic fermentation process comprises a tank B with central supply-tube A, a cylinder D, and an outer baffle of cylindrical or cylindro-conical shape. At the top of the tube A is a tromp blowing-device C, so that the liquid enters the tank mixed with air, and under the influence of the air rises up the cylinder D. Sludge passing round the funnelshaped bottom E of the cylinder D is mixed with the rising liquid. After downward passage within the outer-baffle, clear liquid separates from the sludge and leaves through one or more outlets G.
