Abstract

133,722. Stott, O., and Jones, E. R. May 14, 1918. Aerating; t a n k s , treating in.-In the " activated sludge " process of treating sewage,.the necessary air is supplied at the surface of the liquid, which is circulated round the tank along with the sludge by agitating-devices. The air may be introduced into the liquid by the action of the agitators, which are then placed at the surface of the liquid. In the arrangement shown, the sewage is caused to flow round the tank, and air is forced into it by a feathering paddle 1. The corners of the tank are rounded, as shown at 4 and 5, and internal partitions 2, 3 are provided to direct the flow of the sewage. In a long tank, a number of agitators are employed.
