1,174,265. Aerating and agitating liquids. INGENIEURTECHNISCHES ZENTRALBURO MINERALOLE UND ORGANISCHE GRUNDSTOFFE VEB. 2 Dec., 1966, No. 54184/66. Heading B1C. [Also in Division C6] In a process of and apparatus for aerating a liquid as in purification of waste water and yeast production, the liquid in a container is circulated, aerated and discharged above the surface in a jet which carries the gas bubbles to the bottom. As depicted in Fig. 1 (not shown) the liquid in a tank (1) is circulated by a pump (4) through an air-inducing apparatus (5) and the mixture discharged by a nozzle (8) above the surface of the liquid in the tank. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the pumps 4 raise the liquid to a trough 11 encircling the tank 1, where it overflows entraining air down the inlet funnels 14 of pipes 15 having baffles 20 and terminating in nozzles 8 which are orientated to ensure agitation of the whole, contents of the tank. Several such tanks, each overflowing into the next below, may be superimposed in tower form, the overflow pipes being staggered (see Figs. 4 and 5, not shown).
