167,288. Hobbs, J. R. May 5, 1920. Round holes, enlarging and trueing; wheels and other tools.-A device for grinding the internal surfaces of cylinders comprises two or more grinding-blocks 5 mounted in removable cages 4 carried in longitudinal slots 2 formed in a central cylindrical body. The grinding-blocks are urged radially outwards by springs 6 engaging in sockets 7 in the cages, and are provided with flanges 11 adapted to engage with flanges 10 on the cages. The cages are retained in position by a washer 12 secured to the lower end of the central body and by a washer 16 held in place by a wing-nut 15 screwed on a central spindle 13, which has at its lower end a head 14 seated in an annular rib 3 formed on the central body. The device is driven, through the spindle 13, by a hand brace or drill, or may be set up in a lathe or drilling-machine. The cages are replaceable by other cages of different radial height to enable cylinders having various diameters to be ground.
