Abstract

167,048. Walker, H. June 11, 1920. Blasting cartridges and detonators.-A mixture of potassium permanganate, potassium chlorate, and gum arabic is used in a bore-hole to purify the atmosphere resulting from the explosion. The mixture may be compressed or not, and may be put in the same container with the explosive charge or may be separate therefrom. The potassium permanganate gives off oxygen to complete the combustion; the potassium chlorate also gives off oxygen but in addition helps to transmit detonation; and the gum arabic yields hydrogen, which on burning forms moisture helping to cause the settling down of dust. Specification 24002/05 is referred to.
