Abstract
166,951. Neale, J. April 22, 1920. Electromagnets.-The coils D of a lifting-magnet are located in concentric channels C in the face of the magnet iron which is thus divided up into a series of pole-faces so designed that the width of the pole-faces is equal to the thickness of the load B to 'be raised. The magnet is provided with passages E through which cooling gas or liquid is caused to circulate; this circulation may be due to the natural ascent of the heated air or water, or air or liquid may be forced through the passages. Radial gaps F and concentric grooves H establish communication between the passages E. The circulating liquid may be cooled in a tank or radiator; the magnet may be enclosed in a casing F<1> which is connected by a pipe G to a suction fan (not shown).
