Abstract
166,864. Blauhorn, E. Feb. 8, 1921. Lubricant conveyed by fluid. - The cylinders and slide valves of a locomotive are lubricated by oil atomized by steam in a mixing-chamber b, which is provided with a non-return valve m in the connection k to the steam-pipe. Oil is delivered to the chamber b by a pump through a pipe, d, and should the outlet i to the cylinder &c. be choked, the oil rising in the chamber is capable of flowing past the valve m into the steampipe a, injury by excessive pressure being thus prevented. The steam inlet l is much larger than the outlet i. so that the fluctuation of pressure in the cylinder is not appreciably communicated to the chamber b. Water of condensation drains through the outlet i into the cylinder. The oilinlet pipe d is provided with a non-return valve g and is formed with an inclined portion f<2> to drain water into the chamber b and thence to the outlet i. A test valve h is provided. Fig. 4 shows two lubricators b connected to a steampipe a which is fitted with a removable sieve c<1> to trap boiler scale &c.
