Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-A down-draught shaft kiln for the manufacture of Portland cement is heated by a burner 17 consisting of two semiannular parts with downwardly directed nozzles 18. The combustible mixture is supplied through pipes 20, at the lower ends of which are rotary hit-and-miss valves operated simultaneously with the gas valves.
