Abstract

166,655. Bowden Wire, Ltd., and Sentinella, A. E. April 12, 1920. Bowden mechanism.-In Bowden and like transmission mechanism for operating two or more control members, such as the fuel and air valves of internal-combustion engines, means are provided for actuating the control members either independently of one another or simultaneously and rapidly by additional Bowden mechanism. In a tube 6, closed at one end by a non-rotatable or integral plug 16 and partially closed at the other end by an integral or attached wall 7, slides a runner-block having a part 9 of complementary section to the wall 7 and an enlargement 13 fitting the tube. The sections 23, 24 of the interrupted sheaths of two or more Bowden mechanisms 25 respectively abut on the parts 16, 9, while the inner wires pass freely therethrough. A master Bowden wire 20 is operatively connected, as by a nipple 21, to the runner-block, and its sheath 22 abuts on the wall 7. In applying the device to the independent and simultaneous actuation of fuel and air valves, the master controlwire is connected to an accelerator-pedal &c. adapted to return to the normal position when released, while the independent actuating-levers &c. may be fitted with friction discs or other means to retain them in adjusted position. The coupling may be made of brass or other metal or material, and is readily turned from stock bar.
