Abstract
197,388. Bowden Wire, Ltd., and Nisbet, A. H. Feb. 8, 1922. Controlling-apparatus, arrangements of hand, foot, and transmission gear in conjunction with; flexible transmitters. - Relates to means for coupling a movable or controlled member to two or more Bowden wire or like transmission members so as to permit of independent actuation, as for example in hand and foot control of the throttle valve of a carburettor on a motor vehicle, the arrangement being such that the movable member may be actuated through either transmission member w i t h o u t affecting the setting of the other. According to the invention two or more separate Bowden or like wires g leading from independent controlling members are connected to spring retracted tubular members f, f<1>, slidably mounted in grooves or channels c, c<2> in a two part casing a.. Lugs h, h<1> on the lower ends of the members f, f<1> engage a block d slidably mounted in a central groove or channel c<1> in the casing and connected, preferably through a Bowden wire e, to the throttle or other part to be controlled. When the block d has been moved a short distance by actuation of one of the transmission members g it is still free to be actuated further by the other transmission member g and such actuation does not interfere with the setting of the first transmission member. The device may be modified to actuate two or more movable or controlled elements. The casing a may be fixed, as by screws through lugs b or it may be loosely hung in position.
