Abstract
166,146. Slater, H. July 12, 1920, [Convention date]. Spindle apparatus; spindle rails.- The necks of the flyers of spinning- machines are mounted in bearings open at the front or side so that, for doffing purposes, the flyers and bearings may be separated in a substantially horizontal direction. The neck of the flyer is provided with a central eye 94, Fig. 8, and an oil skirt 93, and is mounted in a bearing H, open at the front and provided with an oil-well 44, as shown in Fig. 4, or open at the side. In the case of old flyers a thimble E, Fig. 4, provided with an oil skirt 30 is sweated or driven on the neck. The bearings are adapted to be moved horizontally by rack-and-pinion or cam mechanism, or are fixed in the top rail when the invention is applied to Dandy-rovers, wherein the spindles and flyers are swung out as shown in Fig. 1 for doffing purposes, the spindle rails being mounted on tracks 9.
