Abstract

165,456. Helps, G. March 30, 1918. Producers.-In a producer having an internal pre-heating retort C, one or more sliding doors or dampers H are arranged between the retort and the combustion chamber G. The doors, which are made of refractory material or metal and may be water-cooled, are opened to allow producer gas or water gas to enter the retort; or such gas and also the " blow " gases may pass from the combustion chamber through openings K to the space around the retort; or coal gas from the retort may pass through the doors into the combustion chamber. An opening R is provided for the withdrawal of surplus coke from the retort. The gas from the space around the retort may be carburetted and utilized in boilers and super-heaters. The Provisional Specification refers to Specification 156,812.
