233,137. British & Foreign Lime & Power Corporation, Ltd., and Reid, T. A. May 3, 1924. Addition to 188.022. Producers ; coking processes.-In plant for the production of gaseous fuel from lime kiln gases, in which a lime kiln burning limestone, dolomite or magnesite is worked in conjunction with two gas-producers each operated alternately as a producer and a converter for transforming carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide as described in the parent Specification, the hot gases from the producer acting as a converter are passed through a retort containing carbonaceous material. A lime kiln a is worked in conjunction with producers b, c and a retort d charged with bituminous coal. Valves g, h, m, v and x being closed and valves i, k, l, n, u and y being open, air is forced by a fan t through the retort jacketd<1> and pipe w entering the producer b, converter c and kiln a by valves u, y and k respectively. The producer gas passing through valve i enters the kiln at a<1> and meets the air entering at a<2>, whereby sufficient gas is burned to dissociate the limestone. The kiln gases pass into the upper part of producer c together with air from valve y and the content of carbon dioxide and water vapour is reduced to carbon monoxide and hydrogen which enter and carbonize the coal in retort d. The gases and volatiles pass to a scrubber a for removal of condensates and to an engine f, the exhaust from which is carried by a pipe f<1> to preheat the charge in lime-kiln hopper.
