Abstract

165,345. Tallgren, H. July 19, 1920. Shelling leguminous vegetables.-A machine for this purpose comprisce a receptacle in which are placed a series of sieves 7, 7<1>, 7<11>, 7<111>, the meshes of which progressively decrease in size, beaters 3 and a cover 2 having an aperture through which the vegetables are fed to the upper sieve. The beater shaft 4 is journaled in the cover 2 and is operated manually or mechanically. The vegetables are immersed in water supplied by the cock 12, and, after the pods and peas have been separated by the beaters, the cock 13 is opened and the apparatus is rocked on rockers 15, by which means choking of the sieves is prevented. A pipe 14 supplies air or water under pressure at irregular intervals to a perforated coil, or to the underside of a perforated inverted cone (not shown) either of which may be housed in the space preserved by the packing-ring 9. The ascending water or air agitates the peas and facilitates the action of the sieves. The pods are left in the upper sieve, peas of various sizes on the remaining sieves according to the meshes employed, and dirt escapes with the water. The sieves are provided with handles 6, 6<1>, 6<11>, 6<111>. A door is provided in the side of the apparatus for removal of stones &c.
