Abstract
164,929. Arrol & Co., Ltd., Sir W., and Shepherd, R. G. April 26, 1920. Overhead travellers.-The trollies or bridges of travelling-cranes are fitted with emergency power cut-off gear operable by individuals prevented from escaping from the track. Platforms a, fitted with hand-rails b, are pivoted near the ends of each wheel axle and are maintained normally in the position shown by springs c. The weight of a man stepping on to any one of the platforms, depresses it and thereby through a cable j opens a switch controlling the locking-means of the main power switch. Upon the opening of this auxiliary switch the main switch opens automatically and a brake is applied to stop the bridge. The operator cannot re-start the bridge by manipulating the controlling-handle, until the main switch is relocked by the restoration of the electromagnetic locking-means. In some instances the apparatus may be used for stopping the bridge at predetermined points, by operating the platforms through the medium of stops on the track.
