539,878. Rope railways ; railway stops. QUALTER, HALL & CO., Ltd., and HAYES, J. S. June 7, 1940, Nos. 9962 and 11070. [Class 104 (ii)] In a rope railway for mines &c. in addition to the normal haulage ropes b<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>1</SP>, a supplementary rope &c. f is connected to the trucks j, not for haulage purposes, but to prevent overspeeding by actuating through its drum g a. speed governor l which releases a weight n to apply brakes to the drum g and the haulage engine a and cut off power from the latter. To prevent over-running of the termini, a bar r carried by parallel links s, s<SP>1</SP>, t is arranged in the track near the terminus, so that if the trucks are over-running, the axles depress the bar, thereby releasing the weight n through linkage w<SP>1</SP>, w<SP>2</SP>, w<SP>3</SP>, w<SP>4</SP>. The weight n and the over-running bar r may be reset by hand gear z<SP>1</SP>, z<SP>2</SP>, z<SP>3</SP>. In another form, suitable for controlling over-running at both termini, a screwed spindle is driven by the drum g and carries a ;nut which travels along the spindle, and is adapted to operate a trip lever at either end to release the weight n.
