Class 103(6) [Also in Group XXXIV] In a rail .track vehicle, especially a vehicle for mine working, of the kind in which the weight of the vehicle is used for actuating the brake mechanism, ground clearance of the vehicle being maintained by pressure in a pneumatic or hydraulic system, the system incorporates a pressure release or trip valve the operation of which is controlled by means of a speed-sensitive governor. As shown, a mine car comprises a frame 1 having a hydraulic suspension system 2 and brake shoes 3, as described and claimed in Specifications 783,231 [Group XXIII] and 785,157 [Group IV(a)] and the hydraulic system includes a reservoir 5, pump 6 with operating lever 14, and a release or trip valve 7, the latter being operated by a spring-loaded toggle mechanism 12. The mechanism is operated by a centrifugal governor 11 when a predetermined maximum speed of the axle 10 is reached, the mechanism then passing over its dead centre position so that the spring 13 strikes the valve 7 and releases fluid pressure in the suspension system. This causes the frame 1 to fall towards the rails and bring the brake shoes into operation. The toggle mechanism may be set manually by rotating a shaft 15 which is connected to the toggle mechanism by a push rod 20, and is also connected by a lever arm 17A, pull rod 18A and adjustable chain and hook to the next car. The push rod 20 is also connected to a shaft 22 at the other end of the car which is connected to the adjacent car, so that if one of the cars breaks away from the train the chain will tighten and cause rod 20 to operate the toggle mechanism and hence the release valve 7. The invention may also be applied to a "gondola" type of mine car, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
