Abstract

153,927. Williams, L. W., Williams, O. R., and Williams, D. D. May 19, 1919. Track apparatus actuating signals other than on trains. -An apparatus by means of which the signal is released to return to danger under gravity when the train passes comprises a three-armed lever H, one arm of which carries a balance lever E<1> to which wires to the operating. lever and to the signal are connected. The arm H<1> engages a transversely movable slotted rod J<1> actuated by a treadle, and normally preventing rotation of the member H. When the wire G<1> is pulled, the lever E<1> is rocked and pulls the wire F<1> to clear the signal. When the train passes, the slide J<1> releases the member H, which is rocked by the counterweight L as the signal goes to danger. The hatchet H<1> enters a notch in the slide J<1> and holds the treadle clear of following train wheels. On the slackening of the wire G<1> the whole apparatus is restored to normal. A modification includes a second treadle bar which, when depressed, locks a member introduced into the wire F<1> so that the signal is only re-set after the train has cleared the auxiliary treadle.
