Checking shuttles; swells.-A compound swell lever is constructed so that upon the main lever pivoted to the lay are pivoted second and third levers arranged so that swells on them first check and then stop the shuttle or weft-carrier. Fig. 9 shows such a device comprising two levers 2<a>, 2b on a main lever 2 pivoted at f to the lay and formed with a swell b, which checks the shuttle as it enters the box. The shuttle then contacts with the inclined or curved swell d adjustably attached to the lever 2a, which is pivoted at g to the lever 2, and bears against an adjustable screw 11 on the lever 2b, which is pivoted at h. The free end of the lever 2<b> bears against the shuttle stop.-motion lever, which causes the swells b, d to bear against the shuttle and stop it in the correct position. In a modification, Fig. 7, the levers 2<a>, 2<b> are formed and pivoted as shown, the pivot g being between the pivots f, h. A cap 13, Fig. 9, prevents the lever 2 from moving unnecessarily.
