Abstract

163,641. Doody, W. S. H. Nov. 1, 1920. Sandals.-A sandal or slipper comprises a sole 1, to which is sewn a backing-strip consisting of a piece of dried Ti Tree bark 2 covered with cloth 3 and straps 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, which are secured at one end between the sole and its backing-strip, and attached, by means of loops 11 formed on the other ends, to an adjustable coupling link 13. This link which may consist, as shown in Fig. 1, of a metal ring elongated in one direction, or of a circular elastic ring, permits of the sandal being adjusted to fit a broad or narrow foot. A heelstrap 9 is provided, having at is upper end a loop 11 through which is threaded an elastic cord 15 which passes through eyelet holes 16 in the straps 7, 8. The sole, backing-strip, and straps may be treated with paraffin wax or other suitable material to render them waterproof.
